A very nice example of the Boyle & Gamble staff officers sword made in Richmond, Virginia with the CS and star in the guard.. All the brass parts retain a nice overall dark patina. The leather scabbard is intact with the classic top stitching noted on the Boyle & Gamble officers swords. The grips have several places where the leather has worn through from actual field use and still retains the original single strand copper wire wrap. The blade has an overall grey appearence with the CSA and Confederate flag etching clearly visible. All the bras scabbard mounts appear to be original to the scabbard. The throat appears to have a name and some other writing scratched on both sides. I spent quite some time trying to decipher the writing but could not come up with anything definitive. Someone with a better eye and a lot more patience may be able to come up with an identification. A very nice example of this sword and hard to find today in this condition.
