A very rare example of the British pattern 1853 cavalry/ dragoon saber maker marked by Robert Mole of Birmingham, England. This brass hilted example is rare in the fact that it is maker marked as most examples do not bear any firm name. Unknown numbers of the British pattern 1853 cavalry were imported through the blockade to supply the Confederacy. This example has probably the nicest blade I have noted on the few examples I have seen. The saber is in very fine condition with a nice patinated brass hilt and almost mint blade with the firm name on the spine. The scabbard is fine and has a grey, brown patina.
