Serial number 2628 manufactured by the Confederate government after taking control of the S. C. Robinson factory. Barrel nicely marked RICHMOND VA. with strong serial numbers on the lock plate and barrel tang. This example utilizes a bolt to retain the breech block instead of a toggle latch typical of the carbines encountered in the 2600 to 2700 serial range. The breech block appears to be Confederate manufactured although it is devoid of any secondary numbers probably due to powder erosion on the block face. The walnut fore end does not have the powder release channel cutout as noted on some later examples. The flat brass barrel band and butt plate have nice golden patina and are completely original. All of the remaining iron parts have a deep dark age patina and are in fine condition along with the original sling swivel and sling bar. The walnut stock has nicks and scrapes indicative of an arm that saw cavalry use. A fine example of a Confederate cavalry arm that more than likely caused a lot of Yankees grief.
