Model 1817 rifle produced by Henry Derringer Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Deep dark brown patinated lock marked US over Derringer over Philadelphia and mechanically perfect. All metal parts have a very deep dark brown patina having never been cleaned. There is minor pitting around the nipple and on the bolster as shown in my photos. The letter P is boldly stamped on the barrel opposite the lock. The wood is very nice with a short crack from the side plate forward and a couple chips of wood missing around the barrel tang. Original rare .58 caliber rifle thought to have been manufactured by Derringer to fill a state contract.
