Large portrait of Colonel Orlando Moore of the 25th Michigan Infantry. Moore earned the nickname "Fourth of July Moore" at the battle of Tebb's Bend, Kentucky when he replied to Captain John Hunt Morgan's surrender demands. Moore replied " I am an American and the Fourth of July is no day for me to entertain such a proposition." Later Colonel Moore received a communication from Confederate Colonel John Hunt Morgan, impressed by his leadership, promoting him to General in the U.S. Army. Beautiful Gilt frame measuring 28 x 25 inches with some damage flaking in several places.
