This gun was once in the John McAden Confederate Musket Collection which I sold about 20 years ago. This particular example serial number 85, is absolutely the best example of these rare Confederate muskets I have ever had the opportunity to handle. All metal parts are dark and have never been cleaned and all the brass parts have a deep dark mustard brown patina. Some pitting is visible behind the rear sight on barrel and the bolster area. Lock markings, M J & G over N.C. and C.S. 1864 sharp and clear on the lock with U clearly visible on the barrel bands. The iron butt plate has some pitting from probably standing in a barn or cellar. Wooden stock nice with initials carved on both sides near the butt plate as often encountered on Southern used arms.
