Identified Confederate tin canteen

Offered for sale is this tin confederate canteen from the Steve Mullinax Collection. Written on Steve's tag C.G. Allen rifleman Company C 20 regiment Va. Volunteers. Under magnification the inscription, although faint can be made out on the flat side of the canteen. No strap remains and the convex side has denting from field use. Research indicates that Cornelius Tacitus Allen enlisted from MCFarland, Lunenburg County,Virginia at the age of 21 as a 2nd Lieutenant in company C 20th Virginia and later transferred into Co. C of the Virginia Lunenburg Rebel Artillery. Records indicate he was wounded at Chaffin's Farm, Virginia which resulted in a finger being amputated on his right hand. Later he was wounded and captured at Sailor's Creek Virginia.
