Good condition 1818 contract cavalry saber made by the firm of Nathan Starr Middletown, Connecticut. The U.S. Ordinance Department entered into to a contract buy 10,600 cavalry sabers from the firm for use of the militia cavalry in the various states. The metal parts have been cleaned and exhibit a mottled grey appearance. About 80% of the leather remains on the grips. Blade markings are sharp and clear.
