Not sure what this was used for but has 4 holes where it was affixed to something. Oval brass measuring 2 3/4 inches by 2 inches. Sgt. E.B. Hovey served in Company I 37th Massachusetts Infantry. The 37th saw all major actions of the Army of the Potomac. They took heavy casualties at the wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House where Sergeant Hovey was wounded.
