Nice condition artillery short sword on buff leather belt with the 1834 pattern S link NCO buckle. Pliable buff leather belt with R. Dingee New York manufacturers mark visible on the inside of the belt. This style belt plate replaced the stacked musket motif prescribed for the infantry in 1832. The 1832 pattern artillery short sword was issued to infantry NCO's in 1832. The leather scabbard is in nice condition with the typical surface crazing often encountered. Blade dated 1842, is fine with several nicks on the edge with a grey mottled appearance and displaying good markings. Brass handle has a nice patina with a sharp eagle cast into the pommel. William A. Thornton inspectors mark "WAT" visible on the hilt. Overall a rare and historic grouping that would display nice in any collection.
