Lock plate sharply marked S.C. ROBINSON ARMS MANUFACTORY RICHMOND 1862 and serial number 1266. Barrel has a mottled gray appearance with the Robinson markings and 1862 Richmond, Va. Saddle ring bar and butt plate are serial numbered on the inside and matching. 52 caliber bore is dirty but still has sharp rifling. As with some of the early Robinson's the fore end does not have the crescent shaped milling as seen on the later Confederate Sharps. As encountered on some of the early Robinson carbines this one has a U.S. Sharps breechblock from captured and battlefield salvaged guns and is original to this gun. The wood is nice and quite possibly cleaned many years ago. Overall a very rare and desirable Confederate carbine with estimated production of around 2000.
