Scarce Confederate rifle with 33 inch barrel fastened by 2 brass bands and with a brass nose cap and hardware. Lock plate strongly marked Dickson Nelson & Co. C.S. and Ala. 1865. Metal parts dark grey to brown patina with pitting around the nipple and barrel tang. Brass butt plate, trigger guard, barrel bands and nose cap retain a dark mustard brown patina. Mechanical action crisp and strong and with rifling visible in the bore. Original sling swivels remain on the trigger guard and forward barrel band. Wood is nice with the usual nicks and dings associated with service and use. The wood has a repair at the wrist but is so well done that it is virtually invisible to the eye. I actually can not tell where it has been done. Overall a very nice example of a very rare Confederate long arm.
