Tryon Contract m1841 Mississippi alteration for socket bayonet

M1841 Mississippi Rifle, part of a contract for 5000 by George W. Tryon, Philadelphia. This particular example has been altered to accept an angular socket bayonet by turning down the barrel and mounting a lug on the bottom side of the barrel. The musket is in very fine condition with strong markings on the lock and barrel and a sharp inspectors cartouche's on the stock. The lock is marked 1848 with 1851 on the barrel. The metal parts have an overall pleasing brown patina with mustard yellow brass furnishings. The wood is fine with sharp edges and in an untouched condition. all in all a rare musket and a rare alteration. according to Trevor's notes this alteration may have been done for the state of New Jersey.
