Item #: TB396

Very rare example of the 1841 rifle box with a tarred cover made by Robert Dingee New York. Fine condition with a strong maker's mark on the inside flap. The leather latch tab is intact and the front cover has the M 1839 small size cartridge box plate. Leather belt loops are intact on the back and in fine condition. There is evidence of 2 slots on the front cover that indicates at one time the box had another device affixed above the box plate. Inside the box on the flap is a printed paper label with what appears to be A.E. Jansen Kingston N.Y. I am not sure of the significance of the label but it could be a retailer or previous owner of the box.
