U.S. Model 1860 light Calvary sabre dated 1863 manufactured by Mansfield and Lamb Forest Dale, Rhode Island. With this. sword is a nice old handwritten tag. The tag reads " Civil War Calvary Sword. This sword was the property of Capt. John Thompson of Co. A Calvary W. Va. under Major General Sack from 1861 to 1865. Was in the battles of Bull Run, Gettysburg, Hawkins Point, Charleston West Virginia, New Creek, Cumberland, Harpers Ferry, and Greenbriar. Sharp markings U.S. C.E.W. and 1863. Grips in nice condition with the original wire wrap. This could possibly be private John F. Thompson of the 3rd. West Virginia Calvary. Further research is ongoing. It seems at this time that private Thompson did not let the truth interfere with a good story.
