Item #: G3584

Typical U.S. model 1858 canteen with the original brown burlap cover and linen sling. Overall nice condition even retaining the original stopper chain. The tin body has the normal dents from use . Scratched into the pewter spout is I.M. Wood Vt. Also is the original collection tag from the Gary Bisacky collection stating that Isaac M. Wood served in the 5th Vermont Infantry. A quick search in The American Civil War Research database does show an Isaac M. Wood serving in the 5th Vermont. However I did find a couple soldiers with that name serving in the 44th Indiana, Veteran Reserve Corps and the 4th U.S. Cavalry. More research is needed on this one.
