Tiffany Cav. Officers sword identified to Captain John L. Carter of the 5th Kentucky Cavalry. Nicely etched blade made by European sword maker PDL. Fancy decorated pommel and guard with a nice brown patina. Captain Carter enlisted on 10/8/1861 at Gallatin Tennessee and resigned on 12/22/62. He saw action at Sweeden's Cove Tenn, Galatin, Tenn. and Bakerton, Kentucky.
