Beautiful Cavalry Officers sword presented to Ephraim Hinkley. Engraved on the top mount is PRESENTED TO LT. E HINKLEY BY HIS COMPANY AS A TOKEN OF RESPECT & ESTEEM AS A GENTLEMAN AND A SOLDIER JAN. 1 1864. A search of the records finds only one possible match and that is Ephraim Hinkley. Hinkley served in the 9th Maine infantry and later as a 2nd Lieutenant in Co. C 6th United States Colored Troops. A most beautiful blade with an eagle on one side and a US on the other. The blade is made by Collins in Hartford Ct. The blade is clearly etched Tiffany and Co. New York.
