Ballard 44 caliber carbine made by Merrimac Arms and manufacturing company Newburyport, Mass. Merrimac produced these arms on the Ballard patent shortly after the civil war when they bought the failed Ball and Williams company. They continued to produce these arms from 1867 to 1869. Nice condition with much of the original blue remaining. All markings visible with nice wood. Missing the rear sling swivel.
