This is the exact Confederate D Guard Bowie pictured on page 213 of CONFEDERATE BOWIE KNIVES BY MELTON, PHILLIPS AND SEXTON. According to Steve's tag this knife was found in a barn in Crabapple, near Roswell, Georgia. The wood grips are nice and are secured by an iron pin. The blade is gray and has a forging flaw on one edge as often seen on Confederate blades. The leather on the scabbard is dry and has obvious mouse damage on the bottom edge. The tinned iron mount and drag are intact and in nice condition. The belt loop is interesting and is inserted through slits in the tin mount, an example of Confederate ingenuity. A great Confederate D Guard from a famous Civil War Collection.
