This is a fine condition Remington Arms 1857 conversion of the U.S. model 1840 flintlock musket to the Maynard tape system. Nice cartouches with sharp N.J. markings. Lock plate marked Remington's Ilion, N.Y. 1857. Barrel marked 1857 with an overall light brown patina with no pitting. Wood is nice with very few dings. This is 1 of 2000 that were converted for the State of New Jersey with sharp clear New Jersey markings at the breach.
