50 caliber percussion breech-loading single shot carbine. Issued to cavalry units, Gallager carbines saw extensive service during the Civil War. This one, serial number 16581 is in nice overall condition with the lock marked manufactured by Richardson & Overman Philadelphia. Wood is in good condition with the usual nicks and dings from use. Metal is overall brown and dark gray with sharp markings and some minor surface rust on barrel. The lock screw is partially broken and should be replaced. Number 36 stamped on stock forward of the butt plate. Patch box has number 208 stamped inside the door.
