A rare version of the U.S. Model 1855 Percussion Rifle. Brass mounted early production with strong 1858 production date on the lock and barrel. Prominent Harpers Ferry markings also on the lock. Real nice wood however is lighter than normal and may have been lightly refinished at some point. Very nice cartouche on the wood. Strong rifling. Long range rear site that slides easily as it should. There were approximately 3,544 that were mounted in brass, however in 1861 when the Confederates took and burned Harpers Ferry approximately 2,800 were destroyed which accounts for the scarcity. Brass is clean with nice U markings on the barrel bands. Missing the double ring cross hair sight in the patchbox.
