Great Gettysburg Battlefield Pick Up Confederate Cartridge Box. Picked up on the field by local citizen and Union veteran William T. Ziegler sometime after the end of the war. Ziegler assembled a well known collection of Gettysburg relics which he displayed in the local GAR Hall. The family retained his collection until 1975. The box shows the effects of exposure to the elements after lying on the field or stored in a barn. Accumulated dirt and mud stains are still visible on it's surface. The missing outer flap and tins were removed by it's wartime owner to facilitate access to cartridges. This box was originally sold by George Lower to Mike Kramer and then to a collector here in Florida.
