CS Embossed Cap Box
Item #: mk97

Embossed CS cap box from the Michael J. Kramer collection. This style cap box is one of the rarest and most sought after Confederate infantry accoutrements. This one is thought to be a product of the Danville Depot in Danville Virginia. The Depot was set up in a former tobacco warehouse by the Confederate Government and employed about 100 employees. Considered a relatively safe area away from the major military actions, it was ideally located on the railroad connecting it to Richmond,Virginia and Greenville, North Carolina. This box is in nice condition overall with a typical lead finial with sewn single strap belt loop. Faintly visible CS in an oval embossed on the front flap. At one time it appears to have been painted a mustard yellow probably when it was displayed in a GAR hall. The old paint is visible in several areas as noted in my photos.
