Virginia Oath of Allegiance

Oath issued to William H. Weaver of the 2nd Virginia infantry at Hagerstown, Maryland. It appears he was a Captain from Augusta County, Virginia in the 93rd Virginia Militia and was deprived of rank by the Virginia Legislature and drafted into the 2nd Virginia Infantry. The records indicate he must have deserted and signed the oath on July1, 1862 at Hagerstown. Later he had service in the 1st Battalion Virginia reserve infantry. The oath is signed by Lt. Samuel J. Oliver of the 29th Pennsylvania Infantry.
