Musket made by J.P. Moore's Sons New York City circa 1861-1863. Thought at one time to be Confederate by some early firearms authors, it was finally established by the late Norm Flayderman to in fact be a product of J.P. Moore. This is the exact musket pictured on page 102 in CONFEDERATE LONGARMS AND PISTOLS BY HILL AND ANTHONY. Overall very good condition with a gun medal grey finish on most metal parts missing the rear sight. Wood has the usual nicks and dings missing a 4 inch sliver behind the end band. Markings sharp and clear on the lock with a Eagle Motiff on top of a shield with an M for Moore. Script initials visible engraved on the barrel opposite the lock.
