Fresh to the market is what appears to be a Field Promotion for Captain Charles Frederick Vanderford to Assistant Chief Ordinance Officer for the Army of Tennessee. It is uniquely written and signed by General Joseph E. Johnston on the back of a Confederate $100.00 note at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Charles Vanderford was responsible for organizing all the Whitworth Sharpshooter Corps in the Army of Tennessee. The first one was organized in Patrick Cleburne's division at Wartrace in 1863 and afterward a corps comprising all of the Whitworths in Bragg's Army was organized near Chattanooga, Tennessee.
