Fine example of a Confederate imported Naval Cutlass with the 2 branch guard and the original brass mounted leather scabbard. When the war began, George B.Tennent of the outfitting firm of Courtney & Tennent of Charleston, South Carolina went abroad to purchase military material for the Confederacy. While in England he purchased Navy buttons, Naval officer's swords and Naval cutlasses. Many of the edged weapons were furnished by Robert Mole and Son of Birmingham,England. This cutlass is one of two variations of cutlasses imported for the Confederacy clearly marked Mole and Courtney & Tennent. The cutlass is in very fine condition with strong markings.
