Very unusual and rare firearm made by Toussaint Joseph Ljoist of Belgium. T.Lhoist recieved a patent in 1853 for a percussion revolver. I have seen two of the 1853 patent models and they both have an exposed hammer with a trigger guard. The unusual characteristic of this firearm it conforms exactly to the model 1853 models with the exception of the trigger guard. This example is devoid of a trigger guard and has a hidden trigger that drops down when the weapon is cocked. The barrel lug is faintly stamped T. LHOIST/ BREVETTE/ A CHERATTE and on the opposite side is a crown over D. Another interesting feature is the Colt 51 Navy style barrel and loading lever secured by a wedge similar to Colt. The 8 MM barrel is smooth bore and retains some original blue. The back-strap is German Silver and engraved with wild game motifs. The action is fine and functions properly and the grips are checkered and appear to be walnut. A very fascinating and unique pistol to say the least.
