Nice Artillery saber marked "T G & CO./ NO" boldly on the ricasso near the guard. When the firm of Hyde & Goodrich dissolved in July of 1861 the company continued business as Thomas, Griswold and company on the corner of Canal and Royal Streets in New Orleans. They would remain in business until the fall of New Orleans in mid 1862. The brass scabbard is fully intact with both ring mounts and has an overall light brass patina with several dents as shown in my photos. The scabbard drag shows a worn edge as having been carried in the field during the Civil War. The original leather grips are about 60% intact and worn through in several places but still retain all of the twisted brass wire wrap. The blade has a grey muted grey appearance with a few very minor nicks near the tip of the blade. A very nice Confederate light artillery saber that was proudly carried by a Confederate soldier during the war.
