Ames contract saber bayonet that fits the Sharps M1859 rifle. Serial number 40551 with bore that measures .805 diameter. The blade has a mottled gray appearance and is free from nicks and dings with strong markings and dated 1861. The attachment mechanism functions properly with good spring action. The scabbard is in good condition with some leather distress just past 1/2 way down on one side. The leather on the end near the drag has several cracks and that can be easily repaired with leather glue.
