7th Indiana Cavalry issued Merrill carbine

Second type 54 caliber Merrill breech loading single shot carbine issued to a soldier in the 7th Indiana Cavalry. Records indicate this exact gun, serial number 12533, was issued to company A of the 7th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry. Wood is used condition with nicks and dings from cavalry use. Metal parts have a mottled gray brown appearance with pitting some pitting in a few areas. Serial numbers match with faint markings on the lock plate due to being stamped unlevel. Markings visible on the breech and rear sight. Brass parts have a mustard appearance and are intact. The .54 caliber bore is dark with some rifling remaining. The 7th Indiana Cavalry served in the Western theatre and suffered heavy casualties in action at Okolona, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee.
