Barn find condition British canteen with the WD marking and dated 1862 The canteen measures 7.250 X 3.750 inches and has heavy pitting on the metal bands with one small area rusted through as noted in the photos.. Generous amounts of the old arsenal paint remain with minor wear on the outside edges. The typical British WD broad arrow mark is visible, and directly below it someone sanded a area which appears to have been an attempt to remove a marking. On the reverse side is very faintly marked D. Bradford C & M and 1862 for the contractor. A small number of these made it through the blockade to supply the confederate army. If this one could talk it might have an interesting story but otherwise at this time it is just a British canteen.
