Probably one of the rarest and least encountered Confederate enlisted man cavalry sabers. Distinguished by the firm name on the pommel cap this example is sharply stamped W.J. McElroy Ga. This fine example retains it's single strand copper wire wrap and most of the leather on the grip. The leather is worn through in several places but is intact. The brass guard and pommel cap along with the scabbard mounts have a pleasing light patina overall. The letters RMC are boldly stamped on the underside of the guard quite possibly the trooper who may have carried the sword. The metal scabbard has a deep brown patina along with it's crude soldered lapped seam. The silver grey blade has the typical stopped fuller and was at one time sharpened. It would be hard to improve on this sword and it would compliment even the finest collections of Confederate swords.
