Engraved on the throat is Captain T.C. Beckham, by Company A 5th Regt. So. Car. Vol. This exact sword is pictured in CIVIL WAR RELICS FROM SOUTH CAROLINA by Celeste and David Topper on page 31. Thomas Beckham served in the Army of Northern Virginia with distinction the entire duration of the war and was wounded 3 times. The brass and steel parts are all in fine condition and are all original. The scabbard is typical for swords made by Haiman with inside wood lining covered with leather. The leather is weak and torn in places and will need to be stabilized. This sword was formerly in the Steve Mullinax collection. Along with the sword is a 1/4 plate ivoryotype of Beckham housed in a full thermoplastic case.
