Extremely rare example of a J.H. Krider Rifle with only a small number having been made for militia units during the Civil War. This one is serial number 9 with VIIII found on the lock parts inside. These .58 caliber arms are believed to have been manufactured for the State of Pennsylvania early in the war with the estimated production to be around 200 arms. This example has 1/2 brass and 1/2 iron trim with a 36 inch barrel along with a sharps style brass patch box. The barrel is equipped with a long range rear and has an overall smooth dark grey patina with pitting around the nipple and bolster area. The stock is fine with a few minor nicks and dings associated with use. Opposite the lock are several initials lightly carved into stock.
