Very fine example of a Harpers Ferry Mississippi rifle altered at Harpers Ferry for Civil War use. Second style bayonet adaption done at the Harpers Ferry Arsenal by shortening the end barrel band, shortening the end of the stock, attaching s bayonet lug on the side of the barrel and providing a long range rear sight. All steel parts have a nice overall light gray appearance and sharp markings with the barrel and lock dated 1852. All the brass parts have a golden mustard appearance with the trigger guard and the end barrel band retaining the original sling swivels. The wood is decent showing a few nicks and dings from normal use and is devoid of any visible inspector's cartouches. The rifling in the bore is in nice condition.
