Very fine example patterned after the British model 1822 Cavalry officers sword. This example has a beautiful etched blade and is devoid of any makers marks. These were imported by American military outfitters and dealers during the Civil War to fill the increased demand for edged weapons during the war. The sharkskin covered gilded wire grip is in fine condition along with the iron hilt which has a deep brown untouched patina. The original leather throat washer remains. The blade is near mint with nice etching depicting the American Eagle, large US and various military motifs. The scabbard is fine with a dark patina and one small dent about 3/4 of the down. I nice example widely used during the American Civil War..
