One of approximately 500 military Rifles made by H.E. Leman of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This example has brass butt plate and nose cap with iron bands. Barrel and lock plate marked H.E. Leman / Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Leman is known for making Kentucky style rifles and Indian trade muskets. It is belived by leading authorities that these were made in an attempt to secure either a state contract or quite possibly a U.S. government contract.
Pleasing looking gun with some pitting around the nipple on the barrel with a medium grey patina overall. The brass butt plate and nose cap have a nice mustard brown patina. The wood is very good with the usual nicks and dings associated with use. There are a couple of stains on the stock from evidently having something spilled on the wood. The ramrod appears to be a replacement and is heavily pitted.
