Sometimes called the Zouave Rifle this example is in very fine condition with most of the original blue remaining. Estimated production was reported to have been around 12,500 between 1862-1865. The lock retains a generous amount of the original case hardening and has very strong makings and dated 1863. The .58 caliber 33-inch barrel retains most of the rifling and has the lug for attaching the saber bayonet. The wood is fine with the inspector's cartouche present and very few nicks or dings. All of the brass parts have a nice patina and compliment the rest of this fine arm. The lock action is sharp and crisp and functions properly. the Remington Zouave rifles are considered by many to have been one of the most well-made and attractive arms of the Civil War era.
