Rare example of the pattern 1858 navy rifle with matching import numbers on the butt plate and ramrod. Information I obtained recently details how this arm originally surfaced untouched except for a replaced lock. The late co-author C.W. Huey, of the book THE ENGLISH CONNECTION at some time replaced the incorrect lock with the correct lock marked Tower 1861.
The engraved number 456 is clearly visible on the Butt plate and ramrod. The JS anchor mark is difficult to make out but is present behind the trigger guard. This fine arm has an overall nice dark patina on all of the metal parts. The wood is fine with the exception of several areas near the butt plate that shown in my photographs. The .69 caliber barrel retains remains of faint rifling visible with the bore light. Of special interest is the Correct Naval cutlass bayonet (mak104) for this rifle listed elsewhere on my website. The import number on the bayonet is 469 remarkably only 13 numbers off from this rifle.
