Excitingly fresh regulation Confederate Majors frock coat identified to Major Henry S. Hale of the 7th Kentucky mounted infantry. Henry S. Hale enlisted September 1861 in company H 7th Kentucky mounted infantry. Major Hale took part in the Battle of Shiloh, Corinth, siege of Vicksburg, Bakers Creek, Jackson Mississippi, Brice's Cross Roads. Harrisburg and the Battle of Baker's Creek where he was wounded in the left hip After recovering from his wound he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel for gallant conduct in the Battle of Baker's Creek. Major Hale would serve out the remainder of the war and surrender with his command at Columbus., Mississippi in April, 1865.
The grouping consist of Hale's major coat, the one he was wounded in, his vest, sash, and his son's post war military academy cadet uniform.
Thee uniform is fine condition with the regulation blue facings, quadrafoil and major's star on the collar. The union staff officers appear to be original to the coat. The coat has a visible repair on the inside of the skirt where the bullet entered his thigh as shown in my photos.
