This tintype was in the Davis family album identified as uncle Jimmy. My research found that uncle Jimmy was in fact George James Davis who served in the Pennsylvania Cavalry. I then was able to determine that the Cavalry image I have listed separately was George James Davis.
Further research is needed to establish who this guy might be.I mounted it in a full 1/4 plate leatherette case. The width of the image is slightly narrower than the standard 1/4 plate size so I taped it in to keep it aligned.
