Extremely rare carbine with estimated production is said to be around 300 produced circa 1857. Interestingly this one is serial number 296 marked on the barrel, breech block and receiver. Designed by Ambrose Burnside these arms were manufactured in Bristol, Rhode Island by the Bristol Firearms Company. The carbine is in good plus condition with an old repair on the right side extending down the length of the lock. The hammer screw appears to be a replacement. Overall the metal parts have a deep dark patina with all serial numbers matching. The wood has wear but overall in good condition with 7 notches on the right side under the lock plate.
