Manufactured circa 1856-1857 with an estimated production of around 800 carbines.. Government inspectors cartouches visible on the left side of the stock. Serial number 17320 visible on the barrel tang, with 1848 and the Sharps patent partially visible. Examples are very difficult to find in any condition with this one in fine condition with all original parts and having never been cleaned or messed with. The wood is good with a small scratch over the lock parallel to the barrel tang as noted in my photos. The .52 caliber barrel has a deep brown patina and strong markings with a decent rifled bore. The brass butt-plate, patch box and barrel have a nice mellow patina. The mechanical action is crisp and functions properly. All in all a very nice example of a very rare carbine.
