SWORD PRESENTED TO CAPTAIN MILES WARREN 8TH MICHIGAN CAVALRY

Unmarked maker unknown fancy Cavalry officers saber presented to Miles Warren who served in the 11th infantry an 8th Michigan cavalry regiments. The inscription reads "PRESENTED TO CAPTAIN MILES WARREN BY HIS COMPANY 8TH MICHIGAN CAVALRY" The sword is in overall nice condition with the exception of the throat missing. The scabbard has one dent and some staining on the reverse side probably from storage. The blade is an overall dark mottled gray color with faint etching visible. Miles Warren was born in Erie County New York in 1825. sometime later he moved to Michigan and according to the 1860 census he was working as a blacksmith. At the outbreak of the war he enlisted in the 11th Michigan infantry in September of 1862. He resigned and was discharged for disability, On 12/30/1862 he then enlisted in the 8th Michigan Cavalry as a Captain. After the war he was a member of GAR Post #83 in Bellwood, Nebraska. Captain Warren passed away on June 12, 1891`and is buried Bellwod Cemetery in Butler County, Nebraska.
