PRESENTATION SWORD SASH & GAR ITEMS BELONGING TO STEPHEN PAIGE MARSH 11TH MICHIGAN INFANTRY

Collection of items attributed to Stephen P. Marsh consisting of his Sword, Sash, Reunion ladder badge, shield badge with his name, regiment and his corps inscribed on it, GAR ribbon and medal and his diary covering 1864. The sword was made by the French maker Klingenthal and is in fine condition with fancy mounts. The scabbard is a nice deep dark color with the drag having several dents to prevent rattling. The brass pommel cap, guard and mounts have a nice pleasing mustard brown patina.The original sharkskin grips are intact with some erosion visible in a few places. The blade is nice and is etched with floral motifs with several in nicks and the edge of the blade. The grouping includes the diary covering his service in 1864 from January through September until the regiment was discharged. The diary is in fair with evidence of water damage. It mentions camp news and picket duty and covers the regiments activity with Sherman detailing several actions in May and June. Reunion items consisting of a ribbon from a Sturgis, Michigan reunion in 1899, a GAR ribbon and badge, A ladder badge and shield badge in nice condition. Last but not least is a cabinet card photo and his officer's sash. The sash is in fair condition with several holes and tears but displays nice.
