This sword is from the Collection of the late Gary Bisacky of Spring Lake, Michigan who passed away in April of 2015. Gary amassed one of the most iconic Civil War collections ever assembled. Attached to the sword is Gary's handwritten tag stating that the sword was attributed to William M. Heazlit who served in the 1st Michigan Cavalry who was wounded at Gettysburg. Gary was a meticulous collector and I have no reason to doubt the info on this sword. Service records indicate that Captain Heazlit was wounded at Gettysburg and Cold Harbor. He passed away on December 8, 1901 in Detroit and is buried in Riverside Cemetery Dowaglic, Michigan.
The sword is in fine condition with a minty blade free from any nicks on the cutting edge. The scabbard is dark without any dents and in nice condition with a few tiny rust spots on the bottom. The shark skin grip is in fine condition retaining all of the original twisted wire wrap. The guard, and other brass parts have a nice patina with gold gilt visible in several places on the guard.
