The canteen appears to have it's original green painted outer surface as seen on these earlier canteens. The canteen has some shrinkage between the wooden slats as shown in my photos. The carrying strap is a 1inch colored cotton webbing consisting of a twill weave with 2 bands of blue thread on the outside edge. This style canteen saw service through the war of 1812 and into the Florida 2nd Seminole Indian 1836-1842.
